My family just spent a week at the Catalani in Soriano. The service was top notch and everyone made us feel so special. It is a small property so it is very personalized. They helped us coordinate taxis and whatever else we needed. We knew them by name after the first day. The common areas look and feel as if you are in a little castle. It is beautiful. We used the lounge to enjoy wine and reading. The garden is very nice. Good breakfast. Good restaurant. The rooms are great as well. Large for Europe and fully quipped with everything you would need to cook if you wanted. If you are looking for a place outside the city to enjoy the quieter side of Italy this is a great pick. I miss Matteo and Gianpaolo already. They were the best!
I enjoyed my stay at Palazzo Catalani, the rooms were great, despite the cold in December, we were able to warm the room up well . The town was absolutely lovely. You must be prepared to walk steep hills. The local restaurants were fabulous. The family owned restaurant was a staple for us, the breakfast buffet was expansive , the family was wonderful “ IL Corvello” was great. The only thing keeping me from giving all 5 stars is the experiences. Massage experience was average, the facility with the exception of Luke warm hot tub. The massage was fine but they pushed the massage table to a cramped area in front of chairs which made it awkward for couples and uncomfortable , there were camera in sauna and hot tub area, so you felt exposed. I understand safety but there was no changing room so the guest is exposed to cameras while changing, in hot tub and during massage. Chef experience itself with Chef Nico was great, shared experience with 3 paying groups, unfortunately, we were not able to take pictures and the Chef said they would be supplied in package with pizza recipe that the hotel provided electronically. WELL after 3 months of inquiry we never received the package from hotel and they kept blaming on Chef. Since we paid the hotel and the advertisement noted that we would receive what the Chef said, I hold the hotel responsible for the lack of follow through.
We may have just came at a bad time, but 4 days prior we were at a HGVC resort in Florence and it was night and day better. The amenities were either not built yet, or broken (hot tub had no heat and half the jets did not work). They do not allow air conditioning during the fall, winter and some of the spring months so if you are a hot sleeper prepare to get a fan and suffer. They said the only option was to open the windows, which was fine but it rained every night meaning the floors were soaked by the morning. This created a bad experience every morning. Ultimately I will pass on this resort next time and find another option. The views were spectacular and the town was great. We did really enjoy that part, we just wish the amenities were as promised/on par with the Florence resort. That being said, the saving grace was the restaurant. Absolutely phenomenal food, the service was too notch (shout out to Antonio, he was amazing) and ultimately a great place to eat. It is the only reason I am giving 3 stars instead of 2.
