Parador de Benicarlo

We were visiting family so not a holiday but this hotel was recommended by family.And it did not disappoint , it has its own grounds with two private pools.But also direct access to beaches.The room was lovely( superior double) with its own verands plus hotel Service was perfect , daily cleaning. Restaurant and very spacious areas with a fantastic breakfast.

We had a one night stay here as a family. All staff were very attentive and polite. Bar service in the cafeteria bar was excellent. Beach front location is superb, although Benicarlo itself isn't great. The pool was a welcome treat although it is tired and needs renovating. Likewise our room did not feel like a Parador, with an old bathroom that needed replacing. I was surprised to find a complete lack of information in the room. No details about facilities, check out times, menus.... nothing. For example, we went upstairs to use the sauna only to read a sign on the door saying it costs 20euros per session, reserve at reception! Likewise, no information about the pedal cycles ouside, but I guess they're an added extra too.

Having stayed in a number of Paradores this was very disappointing. Lobby etc ok the absolute let down was the rooms. We initially booked a superior room but was too dark . Upgraded to the suite - had nice sea views but very very dated. The big problem was that the air conditioning does not work. We had 5 visits from maintenance each time to be told was air in the system - give it 30 mins. Never worked and then they eventually admitted air on struggles on the second floor! Moved back to a superior room that smelt of drains but was at least cool. We went half board - food good but they forgot not change the menu ie no specials. She after 3 nights it gets quite repetitive. Pool area and gardens nice enough, gym very dated. Will never go back and and will be very careful if I use Paradors again
