Parador de Gijón

A nice parador. Good location not in the city center, but not far form the sea and the Port. The Parador is housed in a centuries-old mill, located within Isabel La Católica Park. Just across the street is the football stadium and a supermarket and several restaurants and bars. The parador is actually on the Isabel La Católica Park. so a walk trough backdoor of the Parador brings you in a wonderful park with lots of birds that made for a very nice walk to the city museum or to the beach, and also provides a great view from the restaurant Attention per the Parador personnel is excellent as use to be the case in these places. We have breakfast and dinner in the hotel and the food is up to the high standars of Paradores Common areas and restaurant are quiet a good place to relax having a drink and reading a book if you are in the mood for some quite time. Rooms are little bit outdated, but clean, quiet, with nice beds. We have some minor issues with AC, but was solved on the spot by the Parador personnel.

A somewhat disappointing parador compared to the others we visited. A little out of the center (30 minutes walk from the city centre) in a residential area with no charm and a rather dull atmosphere. It could do with a little refreshment. The car park is tiny and there is virtually no parking in the area.

In my room it was not possible to shower without lots of water soaking the floor. The bottom of the door surrounds were rotted so had been like that for a long time. The building was tired as was the restaurant.
