Parador de La Gomera

Incredible place. Beautiful building. And absolutely warm, professional and generous staff. Can't ask for more. Everyone went beyond: the reception, the cleaners, the waiters. They made the 10 days that we stayed there a glorious time. I hope we can go back. The restaurant was also great. Creative and tasty takes on local cuisine and really good wines. The specials of the day are often worthy. (highlights include the stuffed courgettes, the octopus or the grouper 'cake') Ideally the pool could be open for a bit longer but considering how empty for most of the time I spent there, can see it is something difficult to justify. (The only thing I would change was the other guests tbh. A few rude guests with a level of impatience that was not only unjustified but quite unpleasant to staff and other holiday makers alike.) Stunning location, friendly and helpful service. Great cold water pool with sea views. Quiet and relaxing. All the staff were great and welcoming - reception, bar, restaurant and housekeeping. We had a problem with our car and reception contacted a very helpful local garage to sort it out for us. We have stayed in many different Paradores hotels and this was our best overall experience.

The hotel is extremely beautiful and the rooms are even so. But it is located on the hill so without a car you would be a bit lost, having to walk up and down the steep streets for every meal or stroll around the city. The pool opens at 11 am to which I consider rather late. The pool is not heated, so depending on the weather quite cold. Especially be careful about whats included in your stay, they told us at the check in but then charged for the very things they told us would be included. No apology for the mix up, nothing.
