Parkhotel Engelsburg

Had an amazing stay here. If the front yard parking spaces are taken, then park in the garage 20 meters at the other side of the street. The hotel as a special arrangement, for around 9 euros a day. Room was clean, and well taken care of. Breakfast was plentifully with lots of choices. Staff was very helpful. Nex tot the hotel 50 meters or so is a nice beer garden where you can eat for a good price.

The staff is the best of any European hotel I have stayed in. I only speak English, and they were very helpful when I needed advice about things like trains, places to eat or shop, etc. The hotel is just inside the town center. Everything you need is within walking distance. Rooms are very nice. Mine had a living area, seperate bedroom, and a very nice balcony. The bathroom has a full shower. This hotel is a bargain, and just a short walk to the train Station. I would not stay anywhere else if I ever visit this area in Germany again.

We booked our stay at the Parkhotel Englesburg back in October of ‘23, our trip was centered around staying here to see Taylor Swift in nearby Gielsenkirchen, it was our Christmas present to our daughter so we booked the penthouse room so it would be extra special. Upon arrival we learned that our room had been downgraded and the price increased. We got into a room on the same floor as the penthouse, but adjacent to it, like this room was the servants quarters and had no balcony, no AC and open windows to a very loud bar/band downstairs. The staff lied to us repeatedly and kept changing their story. First it was the night manager wasn’t there and would take care of it in the morning. Then they sent this guy up to investigate the AC after telling us the room had AC, he got into the room and couldn’t get it working, then said the room had no AC and just open the windows and enjoy the breeze. They kept telling me to wait until morning to talk to the night manager, but finally admitted the penthouse room we booked had been given to someone else. The front desk guy said “good luck calling Best Western they’re not going to do anything”. We basically got lied to, they sold our room to a higher bidder when they realized a lot of people were coming for the concert, lied about that and my family on our dream vacation were all in tears, my daughter of 9 years terrified by the creepy room they tried putting us in, we had to pack up our stuff and leave. Thank god we were able to get a room a half hour to the south in Dortmund at the Residence Inn, or else our dream vacation could have turned into a nightmare thanks the the lies and deception of this place and their staff - it should be illegal what they pulled on us beware! Would give minus 5 stars if I could this was the single worst hoteling experience of my long life.
