Parkhotel Mondschein a Member of Design Hotels

This hotel has a lovely style as you can see on the photos. The location is perfect for central Bolzano and the room is fun. The restaurant food is great. There is something missing in the service culture though - staff did not come across as friendly and did not have a can do attitude (besides the girl who checked me in and our key server at dinner). The pool lacks enough chairs so guests need to lay on the grass away from the pool area and when I asked the young guy clearing away glasses if we could order a drink, he pointed to his colleague on the other side of the yard and said we’d need to order from him. He could have said he’d send his colleague over. The pool area was littered with empty glasses and bottles by later afternoon. The porridge at breakfast was flavoured (saffron?) and inedible.

Parkhotel Mondschein is one of the most beautifully designed places I’ve stayed. Every detail, from the interiors to the ambiance, feels curated with care and style. The staff are genuinely welcoming and attentive, making you feel at home from the moment you arrive. My room was spacious, incredibly comfortable, and peaceful, the kind of place you actually look forward to returning to at the end of the day. The food was also top-notch, with a menu changing every Wednesday. A perfect stay in the heart of Bolzano, I’ll definitely be coming back!

Good points: great breakfast outdoors on the terrace. Comfortable beds and luxury (Suzanne Kaufman) hand soap and shower gel. Beautiful gardens. Bad points: there are about 20 sun loungers for a hotel with very many more rooms. This meant that during our five night stay, we were unable to get a sun lounger at all during our stay. This was such a disappointment as it was in the mid to high 30 degrees Celsius and relaxing on a lounger in the shade after a morning of hiking /biking would have been lovely. The hotel could easily remedy this by adding some more sun loungers for guests to use in the beautiful gardens , but they have not taken this opportunity. Another review from last year acknowledged the lack of sunloungers and they said twelve months ago they’d be adding more, however as of June 2025 they have not been added. This hotel does not participate in the Süd Tirol guest pass. When we’ve stayed in other Bolzano hotels you are often given one of these guest passes as a complimentary benefit. However the Monschein does not participate. Therefore we had to pay for travelling on the Renon cable car (€13) on the local trains eg for a day out to Trento (€14) or Bressanone or on the local buses. In summary this hotel does really know what its core proposition is. It does not really cater for summer guests who want to relax outdoors due to lack of sun beds nor is it a hotel for those wanting to explore Süd Tirol due to lack of guest pass. Next time we’re going to stay in the Scala Stiegl which was a much bigger and nicer pool and has more than enough loungers and the Scala offers a complimentary guest pass.
