I treated my mum to 2 nights away for her birthday. It holds a special place in my mums heart as her parents came here 70 years ago for their honeymoon (I have attached a photo of the postcard from when they were there) The location was phenomenal, so beautiful. The staff were so attentive. From check in to check out, it was perfect. Breakfast was included in our stay, service was 10/10. I had the full Irish breakfast on the first day and the scrambled eggs and salmon on the second day. We didn’t get a chance to use the spa facilities unfortunately. In terms of our room, it was beautiful, I had booked the Mountain View room, but was quite disappointed with the view we got. We were located on the ground floor of the hotel, hence we didn’t see much mountains, as it was mostly just trees. The facilities in the room were great, a few things worth mentioning was on some parts of the wallpaper it was tearing off the wall. Some of the furniture had a few scuff marks. I felt that the TV screen size wasn’t adequate for the distance from the TV to the bed. We walked one of the trails that they have to offer on their 500 acre property, absolutely stunning and well maintained. We dined in the Doolittle Restaurant. I had the featherblade beef, the meringue dessert and the sticky toffee pudding, both were delicious. The service was great and we weren’t waiting too long. Apart from that, I have to say, the staff went above and beyond and were so helpful with everything. I hope to make this a tradition for her birthday.
We stayed in a lodge. It was grand, but I wouldn’t say it was overly comfortable. Beds weren’t great and the sofa was not comfortable at all. As we had an 8 month old with us, we had to spend a lot of time in the lodge. So comfort was important. The main hotel & facilities were great, but the standout for us was the staff. They were all excellent, polite and extremely helpful. For a family break it’s probably more suited to families with older kids. Location is good, with the local village only a 5 minute drive away. The views in front of the hotel are outstanding and the multiple trails are great. They’re a nice little touch. It is quite expensive though….
This hotel offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, mainly thanks to its outstanding staff. The team is incredibly friendly, attentive, and always willing to help, making the stay very pleasant. The location is fantastic, especially for nature lovers—perfect for hiking and exploring the surrounding area. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. The lobby often has a noticeable firewood scent, which can sometimes be a bit too strong. While the rooms are decent, there is definitely room for improvement in terms of comfort and amenities. That being said, they are still good enough for a comfortable stay. Overall, a great option with excellent service and an ideal location for outdoor activities. Just a few small changes could make it even better!
