My spouse and I had a pleasant four-day, three-night stay at PEAK STAR hotel, Istanbul, TURKIYE, from May 20 to May 23, 2025 . . The location was superb, perfectly situated close to TAKSIM SQUARE, offering pleasant environment and just a 2-3 minute walk from the HAVAIST bus stop . . It has convenient access to wealth of shopping, diverse eateries and dining options while we always felt pretty safe, even late at night . . The staff was friendly, particularly Mr. Mahmood was incredibly helpful . . Our room was reasonably clean and air-conditioned, and the breakfast was a highlight with a wide variety of items to choose from . . We would obviously prefer to come back and stay here anytime on our next trip . .
Well the room definitely needed some repairs. Shower doors not working, damaged power outlets, dirty walls. I had some black hair in my bed and the sheets were dirty as well. The elevator was broken the second day and I doubt the maintenance is done on a standard basis. Breakfast was OK, one of the simple ones I experienced. Cleanliness in the breakfast room should be better, some of the tourists returned back vegetables from their plates back to the buffet by hand, that was so bad. The location is quite OK for city explorers. The staff expected baksis right away, for what? Going with me to the room? That was so awkward. I had no cash anyway. It was also noisy, the door and window were not sealed very well. For more than one night I would try something else.
While the location seemed like a pretty busy area we were not satisfied with the hotel itself. The receptionist, a young man communicated fine with us, checked us in without any inconvenience. ‼️‼️ But I felt bad for another old couple who were not treated well. They spoke decent english, enough to understand the basic check-in procedures. The same man who checked us in was rude to this couple. I saw this guy murmuring to himself showing clear signs of annoyance. I stood close by them to understand what was happening in that scene. They were given a pre-filled form (with somebody's name and details) and were asked to sign. They refused and tried to tell him that It was not their name not their children's. This man repeatedly tried to tell them in an annoying tone that it could be their children's name. Come on! Who will make a reservation with the names of their kids huh? I'm pretty sure it was not a problem of the old couple communicating. After a few minutes of drama, he struck the pre-filled names with his name and asked them to fill their details. This is not professional. As a receptionist you are the first person every guest is gonna interact with. To show visible signs of annoyance and murmuring is very bad. The standard rooms are of 8m2 roughly. There was hardly any space nor tables to place luggage. We had to manage it on the floor. The beds were ok, it was at least a little decent. I'd give 2-3/5 for cleanliness. The cupboards did not have any hangers.. My other friends had inconveniences with the bathroom as well. There was no hand shower, the sliding door was hardly sturdy. We spent just 1 day and decided to move to another hotel. Their standard rooms are not a good stay for families. It felt more like a poorly maintained hostel.
