Pestana Casino Park Ocean and SPA Hotel

The best thing about the pestana was the staff. They're absolutely lovely people. So kind and helpful. The breakfast was fabulous. The hotel was spotless. Our first room was very dated but we got moved to a suite which was very nice. The grounds are gorgeous with beautiful plants and shrubs.. I'll thoroughly enjoyed my stay and I will return

Great location next to old town of Funchal. The hotel interior was designed with definitely a high-end like concept. Personnel was very attentive and helpful, we had very good interactions. The room was comfortable and cleaned daily. Maybe the furniture would need a little refreshing, but I don't assume anyone comes to Madeira just to sit all day in a hotel room - either way it didn't bother us. Breakfasts buffet had a nice variety. Two exterior pools, cleaned daily, with a sufficient number of sunbeds. Definitely will stay there again when back in Funchal!

We spent a week here. Let me start with the positives. The staff – super friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Martin from reception. The hotel is also very clean. Every day you can see the staff cleaning different parts of the hotel. The location close to the city center is also a plus. Unfortunately, that’s it for the positives. Five stars? Maybe this hotel had them back in the 70s when it was built. Yes, it’s an old building, and despite some later renovations, you can’t hide that fact. Breakfast is acceptable, though the same every day for 7 days. We tried dinner twice and decided it wasn’t worth it – not good. After that, we ate in town. Oh, and don’t be surprised if you see a pigeon helping itself at the buffet. Room location – first option: view of the casino, where parties often take place. Loud cars, drunk people, and music. Good luck falling asleep. Window open or closed makes no real difference. Second option: facing the city with the constant noise of some ventilation system nearby. Rooms are small, unless you book a suite – but that doesn’t solve the issues mentioned above. And finally, the cherry on top – a photo from the ironing room in a so-called five-star hotel.
