Pestana Grand Premium Ocean Resort

We spent in this hotel two lovely weeks in July. The stuff was really helpful and friendly. We had a comfortable room with a sea view which was absolutely wonderful! The food was very good, great fish and meat, plenty of vegetables and fruit. It’s a very quiet and peaceful hotel without loud animation program. The swimming pools were really big, however, the water was slightly too cold for us. The location was great near restaurants, cafes, a taxi rank, a shopping mall and a bus stop. Almost every day we took a walk to the Funchal city centre. We would come back to this hotel with pleasure.

A very comfortable hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. We were provided with a complimentary glass of Madeira wine on arrival after a long delayed journey and food brought up to our room as we had mussed dinner. Room had a great sea view and the flora and fauna were wonderful. Madeira is a wonderful island to visit and I look forward to returning there.

TLDR, this is definitely not a 5-star experience and would be better advertised as a 3 star hotel to manage guest expectations. Pros: 1.) Good location, walkable to restaurants (they’re cheaper and just as convenient) and the promenade which takes you to a pebbled beach. 2.) Our room was a good size. 3.) The staff were nice. Cons: 1.) We had to ask 5 times for simple things like wash cloths, conditioner, pool towels, etc. We didn’t receive them until multiple days into our stay. When we explained this, they didn’t do anything to make up for these consistent errors. 2.) Several things (the AC, shower head, lights, etc) were not functioning at all or properly when we arrived. 3.) It’s definitely an older property that is decently maintained but could use some better upkeep.
