Pestana Madeira Beach Club

During this summer, the service has been disappointing. Corona virus has a lot to answer for, we suspect. The staff are always wonderful. but we have had some disappointment with hotel food this time. The apartments are superb and housekeeping staff are wonderful. The site itself is in a very beautiful location on the coast, with breathtaking views. The site offers an indoor pool, two large outdoor pools, sea access, a dive centre, restaurants, a tourism office, an indoor spa, and helpful reception staff. It is very clean and well managed. We have been coming here for years. Love it!

Forgot to write this review. In 2020, due to COVID-19, our usual hotel was closed and we therefore had to stay in the Madeira Beach Club. When we arrived, our room had clearly not been refurbished yet as we had disgusting bright red furniture. We also had a window view of a mouldy wall of an abandoned hotel next door. Our bath tub also didn’t work and I found a slipper in my drawer. I am grateful that Owner Relations at the Carlton were able to accommodate us with two newly-refurbished interconnected studio rooms. Other than the bad start, we enjoyed our time here.

Hotel facilities are great.👏 However, the Pestana Group have "prioritised profits before considering guests" to squeeze as many customers into as many rooms as possible during August 2022, while keeping some of their other resort hotels closed at the same time. 🤢🤔 We ended up in a sub standard room with difficult access along corridors and up flights of stairs and I'm guessing it was the last room available at the hotel. (Probably used for emergency staff accommodation these days and most definitely not 5*****).😢 A damaged sofa bed, a noisy fridge and very loud air condition unit did not help matters when trying to sleep at night - which was the only time we spent in the room! I also had to lift and relocate a bed in order to close the bedroom door and our young son had to access the bathroom via the bedroom - I kid you not. In addition, we were charged another 70 Euros on arrival😒at reception, without prior notice. After checking out, we submitted online feedback as requested, the email response back to us began "Dear Mr/Mrs undefined," !!!🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ which really summarised this experience. We love Madeira and have stayed at Madeira Beach Club / Pestana Carltion previously but would not do so again.
