Pestana Miramar Garden & Ocean Resort

A little tired, due a refurb later in the decade but has a certain charm. Great staff, good reasonably priced restaurants and lovely grounds, pools and gym. Location is terrific, far enough out of town to not be too bus but still walking distance to and from Funchal. A few good restaurants in the area, and access to the coastal promenade.

Quite outdated compared to other nearby hotels and price wise I'd say it's maybe a tad over what you'd expect for the money you pay. Saying that, the pool is very relaxing as there are very few kids flying about and the rooms are nice and spacious with a good balcony view. Just be aware it's around a 30 minute walk into Funchal centre and it's all uphill coming back!

Older building mass, but very well maintained. The hotel shares a lot with the neighbouring Pestana Village, which leaves you with a lot of options and amenities. Family friendly, 2 outside pools, 2 kids pools, 2 jaccuzzis and one inside pool. Enough sunbeds, and few people running into the pool decks in the morning with towels to «reserve» a sunbed. Hotel has a decent parking garage and even offers EV charging (2 spots). Staff are very helpful, friendly and service minded, as usual for Pestana Hotels. The hotel offers great value for money. Pricing at the pool bar and lunch have approx the same price level as restaurants outside, breakfast and dinner are included in a lot of fares. Nice detail to offer dinners in the restaurants at Pestana Grand 2 kms away, included in the dinner fare. Improvement points: - Dinner buffet could have more options for kids, like the nearby Pestana Carlton has. - Quite few electrical outlets in the room, at least the few that are there should be swapped with double outlets. Good value for money, and easy to recommend.
