Phoenicia Grand Hotel

Perfect princess room, always helpful staff, very good and diverse breakfast. Location is perfect for getting around Bucharest, close to airport, and huge parking area. Bonus, a perfect gym & spa.

The hotel is a huge building with several areas and a very interesting lobby. The staff is very polite and supportive. The rooms and the general conditions are not the best, but in the end is a nice place to go if Bucharest is just a short visit of a longer trip.

What used to be a truly "Grand" hotel is now in decline. I have visited it several times during the past 9 years and I have seen it happen gradually. The furniture wearing down, carpets accumulating stains, etc. But the worst offenders are the bathrooms. They have made a poor attempt at patching them up, keeping the old fixtures and filling all of the seams with moldy silicone. Not what you expect from a 4-star hotel. Outside of the bathrooms, the rooms are "fine", but obviously dated. There was an attempt at refreshing some of the original furniture, and it looks all right, as long as you don't look too close. The price keeps creeping up year by year, and the quality keeps going down. The only redeeming qualities that remain are the friendly staff and the breakfast. But make no mistake, this is an aging hotel, long past it's glory days. Suffice to say, I shall not be returning.
