Pianelle Resort

Everything about this resort is perfect! The entire staff is amazing and the room, breakfast area, rooftop terrace and especially the bar are remarkable. What a fantastic location to explore Matera! Best place we have stayed in Italy by a long shot!

Lots of reviews describe the beautiful cave rooms in this hotel. But let's start with the staff. Every single person we encountered that worked here was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The breakfast was excellent, buffet with eggs to order. The focaccia and other pastries were fresh, the fruit was better than expected for the time of year. We had a suite, lots of room, well-furnished, and a very comfortable bed. Two cisterns were in the room, one visible through a glass window in the floor, the other just a half step down. The hotel makes you aware of the incredible heritage of Matera. Highly recommended.

Great staff and nicely decorated but there are better choices. First night, a/c broke down, couldn't sleep. Rooms are not in a cave, only few ones are and the view is mostly blocked and not a direct view. The hotel is located downhill to the main squares and restaurant so there is a lot of steps to climb to go eat.
