I was looking for a little getaway with a special friend, and I'd read a little about this unique hotel. As far as price, take a look at any of the "name brand" hotels and it's not that expensive. Entering our room you feel like you've taken a step back into a time long forgotten. Stone walls that have been there hundreds of years, a beautiful four poster bed, fireplace and non-contemporary furnishings. Its really quite beautiful. The bed was oh so comfortable and we barely made breakfast! The service at the hotel is personal and professional. It's really a lovely place that I couldn't say a bad thing about!
This property is gorgeous, and no detail has been overlooked. It is very personable, as are the staff members who will go out of their way to make your stay as memorable and pleasant as possible. Many other reviews mention the breakfast, and I second their notions - don't miss it! It is served in an idyllic dining room with a roaring fire, classical music playing in the background, and is delicious, filling, and an overall perfect way to start your day. The fact that it is included in the price of your stay is icing on the cake. Oh, and the waffles? Find them in your bread basket. Eat them. Every. Single. Day. We had Rooms 1 and 3. It was neat to see the difference between rooms (nothing cookie cutter here) but they shared this: they were impeccably clean, spacious, and obviously lovingly cared for. The birds in the lobby / conservatory are a sweet addition and I enjoyed saying hello / goodbye to them every time we came or went. The African Grey is a heart melter and I wish I could have brought her home with me. If you stay here, please be extra sweet to her. Finally, the location of this hotel is perfect - it puts you in a prime spot to experience Old Montreal and you could walk everywhere in this area if you so choose. If you have a car and decide to venture out into the other parts of the city / country (i.e. sugar shack) the parking here is free. The wifi is free (and fast) as well. We had a marvelous time and I look forward to a day when I can return.
Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff (especially Patrick). It's costly but worth every penny. Lots of history. Visited by many famous celebrities, Richard Gere, Sophia Lauren, Steve McQueen, etc. It also has historic ties to the American Revolution with visits from Ben Franklin and Benedict Arnold (when he was still a good guy). Loved it and will definitely be on our short list for our next trip to Montreal. The only way this could have been better would be better sound proof rooms.
