Playacalida Hotel

I would like to wholeheartedly recommend a gluten-free spot in Spain, in Almuñécar. I'm talking about the Senator Playa Cálida hotel. The hotel holds a Spanish certification responsible for overseeing establishments safe for people with celiac disease, and the chefs are truly well-informed. There is a small language barrier when it comes to the staff, but there’s always someone on duty who can speak at least some English. Meals are brought directly from the kitchen – there’s no buffet – but my 7-year-old was happy with it. We placed our lunch and dinner orders right after breakfast, and they prepared what we wanted. Breakfasts are mostly sweet: pancakes, croissant, omelet, cereal with milk. For lunch and dinner: fish, meat, nuggets, burger, pizza, spaghetti… and a few dessert options suitable for a little celiac too. They even made gluten-free churros! With the All Inclusive option, you also get ice cream and snacks in the afternoon. My child was well-fed and, most importantly, safe. Aside from that, the hotel is like a dream – amazing pools, clean rooms, and friendly staff. A recommendation from Gluten-Free Ala

Solid Hotel - not only for families. Since it is from time to time on our way we stayed multiple times there durin the off season and really enjoyed it every time. The hotel seems to be really well managed. Very helpful, professional and kind staff. Also their maintenance team seams to be really good. Unlike other hotels that are older and more on the cheap side broken things are fixed quickly and well. You wont find everything loose and broken. The rooms are nice, well maintained and clean (not spotless but clean). We enjoyed the indoor and outdoor pools which can also be used by kids with no extra charge. All in all very recommendable if you dont need pure luxury ! Very few things could be really improved 1. Please, please, exchange the powder coffee machines for ones with real coffee beans. That instant coffee is disgusting. There is filter coffee at the buffet to avoid instant coffee and cappucino, but please.. id pay 1€ more for breakfast 2. The outside pools are really nice but not heated besides the nice and warm outside Whirlpool. Meaning they have about 19 degrees even now in may. Maybe get some solar on the roof.. its fine if they are warm in the afternoon.

This hotel is great for families. The whole place has its ups and downs... the room are nice but were built fast (can see in photos). The pools are great but are crowded. The bars have anything you want but the lines are long, and so on.... If you're looking for a hotel that does the job this is the one. If you're looking for a "posh" stay this is definitely not that place... although floor one rooms have very nice balconies.
