We had the absolute best time here! Both the food and the hotel were fantastic. We stayed two nights and wish we’d stayed longer. Staff were super friendly and accommodating. The room was perfect, the space used thoughtfully. All the little things were thought of, the hard to describe things. Water pressure & temperature were great, there were enough spaces to place luggage and toiletries, towels were big and fluffy. The bed was very comfy, and we loved the view! The food was delicious, breakfast and dinner. We left super early our last day and they tried to help us still get food, which was very kind! We just left wayyy too early for that. If we ever make it back to Islay, I look forward to coming back here! Probably the best hotel we’ve stayed at all year, it’s hard to beat the kind and thoughtful people at Port Charlotte.
Very classy hotel with nicely-decorated rooms although it was on the small side. Nice bathroom but again a bit small. There is a beautiful guest lounge and a small restaurant too, although it would seem most eat in the atmospheric public bar on the other side of the hotel. There is a good selection of whiskies.
This is a review of the restaurant (we didn't stay in the hotel). The restaurant was a complete surprise, I really wasn't expecting to find something serving this quality of food, in such stylish surroundings, in a little village hotel in Islay. I was expecting 'pub grub', but it was proper and well prepared restaurant fare. The dining room is relatively small - it could probably seat 30 diners at a push (although quite sensibly they stagger seatings to make sure the kitchen can cope). It is, however, very stylishly decorated, with very comfortable chairs and lots of nice artwork on the walls. The menu was great, a good selection of seafood, but also a few meat and vegetarian options. We had the Mushroom Mutar Masala, which was as good a curry as I've had in a while, and the Pork Tenderloin, which was perfectly cooked. Staff were very friendly and attentive. It's not cheap, but the prices are fair for the quality of the food.
