This hotel is a cultural landmark. I was given a room over the Main Street with an awesome view of the city and the temple. It’s a ten to fifteen minute walk to the town center. But thank a bus back. The climb and elevation combined will take your breath away. Negatives, it’s old and there are many broken thing. My window to the street would not close. There is a kitchenette but no coffee maker. The A/C is on or off. Means it’s too cold or too hot. 50f to 80f. They will try to sell you breakfast tickets. Not a good deal. They don’t start serving until 8:30 and waitress seem to ignore you. Asked for coffee with cream and sweetener. Took about 5 mins to get the coffee another few minutes to get the sweetener then the meal and another 10 to get the cream. Food was cold before I could sip my coffee. Do not eat here. But the grounds are worth putting up with subpar service.

The property was beautiful and historic. The views were amazing from our room and the staff was welcoming and friendly. HOWEVER!! The rooms were in terrible condition. The bathroom had mold all over the ceiling and walls, the couch was run down and dirty, and the towels had stains that were questionable.

This place is a crumbling relic of better days, clinging to its “rustic charm” while neglecting basic maintenance. Door handles hang loose or don’t work at all, metal fixtures are rusted over, and the overall condition feels like it’s been left to rot. Yes, the view is beautiful — but that’s the only thing this hotel has going for it, and nature did that, not them. What really soured our stay was the classic bait-and-switch. I called directly, trying to give them the benefit of keeping more of their earnings instead of paying a booking site. I was quoted $75 for two rooms, four people. But when I showed up? Suddenly it was per room. I said I’d just take one room — suddenly, the price jumped to $100. That’s not confusion. That’s opportunism. And let’s be honest: it was the “gringo tax,” plain and simple. They heard the accent, saw the passport, and jacked up the price. To top it off, they tried to justify the scam by saying it was “high season.” Really? On a rainy Tuesday, in a nearly empty hotel with a wall full of keys? This kind of behavior doesn’t just hurt tourists — it feeds every tired stereotype people try to shake about travel in this region. Shameful.
