A stunning and very affordable location to spend the night if you have interest in the cultural heritage of the country. This convent was intelligently restored and adapted as a pausada for travelers and visitors in Olinda. Rooms are modest but very well kept. You will be sharing bathrooms but they are plenty and clean. You will also have abundant space to meditate in the building’s shared spaces such as the foyers, the central courtyard and the restauration halls. Add all of this up and you are looking at a haven of peace that will fill you joy, all of this at a very affordable price.
You only need one night in Olinda, two nights max, and this beautiful old convent building that's been restored though the rooms are austere, is the perfect place to stay.
This bed & breakfast has only been open since 2018, but was originally built in 1585 as a convent. It served that purpose until 2014. The hotel is still owned by Sisters of Saint Dorothy. There are a total of 31 rooms, 14 of which have their own bathroom (the other 16 rooms have access to shared toilet facilities). This is a unique property, so it’s difficult to compare to other properties. The staff are all very pleasant and the property is beautiful. In fact, the only way you can see this former convent is to be a guest here (it’s not open to the public). Our room had access to a huge veranda with a view of the lighthouse and the sea beyond it. The bed was not very comfortable and there is no place to hang or store your stuff. The breakfast was possibly the worst I’ve had at a hotel—there was almost nothing to choose from. I am very glad we stayed here and it’s definitely worth staying here once for its historical and architectural significance.
