Great location in the heart of Sea Point, seconds away from the iconic promenade, and minutes from excellent restaurants, coffee shops, bars etc. This is why you stay here. Not for the food - I observed another guest return her meal to the kitchen because it was cold, it was a fish dish. Not for the service - I generally moved around unacknowledged unless I greeted first. Not for rest and relaxation - poor sound insulation meant I could hear the amorous couple at the other end of the corridor. I did what others on my floor did and turned on the TV and put the volume up until they were done. My room had a fantastic view, though. It was clean, apart from the light switches, air-conditioning control and TV remote, which I always clean with wipes before use. An issue for most hotels. The ironing room was convenient. And the generator was a blessing when the power cuts returned. There was no update about those, by the way, which may be an issue for fellow foreign visitors who are not aware and therefore don't have the Eskom se Push app on their phones. I got stuck in the lift for one minute when a power cut arrived. The generator kicked in quickly, though. All said, I would stay here again. Securing a hotel room in Cape Town in the summer can be like competing in an Olympic event. For a work trip where I just needed somewhere safe and comfortable to sleep, this was fine.
Staff left a lot to be desired. Absolute attitude from the moment we were booked in. We were "upgraded" to a loft apartment but to our horror it was right by new excavations and building done. Noise was deafening. To order room service a tray charge is asked so it accumulates. Going to eat in restaurant also was tiring. Staff were more interested in gossiping to one side than being attentive. Then when we were checking out we were charged a hefty price for a pillow case that had a stain on.. We were horrified. They actually had the audacity to threaten to call the cops. Ahh hell no.. Never again!!!
Avoid at any cost. Basic room&breakfast, total absence of cosiness, very poor service and, on the top, money stolen from suitcase and even from the room safe. Unacceptable! If you have to stay there for some reason, never (NEVER) leave any valuables in the room. Even the closed safe does not guarantee security.
