Protea Hotel by Marriott Ikeja Select

I didn't have the opportunity to check out the rooms. But the car park is well set, the reception too is receptive! One striking feature for me is the fact they have a separate toilet for wheelchairs. The first I have seen so far in my travels. The service from the gate is encouraging and welcoming. The few minutes I spent before my clients came out was relaxingly refreshing.

Pillows were too soft. The spring of the bed kept squeaking. Customer service is excellent. Everyone had a smile on his/her face and they greeted us warmly. Breakfast was good too. There was variety and you could get an omelet and pancakes freshly made for you

This hotel is in a great location not far from the airport and within walking distance of Ikeja mall so you've got lots of options for food, shopping, arcade games, cinema and barbing shop. The staff were also exceptional! Always quick with a smile and kind wor they got us an extra mattress cos we were travelling with kids. The room temperature was comfortable and the windows could open for fresh air. The rain head shower also has the right temperature and the toilet layout was good. The food was alright, they had reasonable variety and it tasted okay. The food was mainly buffet. Now the negatives. First no toilet shower/bidet. The comforter was insufficient for two people, the bedding and especially the pillows were old. The room was damp the first day but they came and sprayed some freshner which made it go away. They were painting right outside the door and the smell was strong. We also experienced some really noisy neighbors who were in an adjoining room. They checked in around 4:00am and were so loud we called the front desk at 5:00am and they quieted down about 20 mins later. This happens in any hotel so not necessarily a reflection on Protea Hotel. This is neither good or bad, but they're renovating which means the pool though accessible through a circuitous route feels inaccessible. Didn't see anyone sitting outside the whole time I was there. They do have a table tennis set-up but when we asked for the paddle and balls, we waited for a long time and were eventually told there were no paddles or balls to play with. There is a gym which is currently out of order for repairs. They have a wheelchair ramp to enter the hotel as well as a lift. They also have a car service to take you where you need to go, but off course the prices are hotel pricey. There were quite a few foreigners staying here. Overall with the right improvements this hotel could become an exceptional value for money. They've got the important things like location and customer service down, they just need to complete their upgrades and this place can easily become 4 or 5 star.
