Pyrgos Of Mystra

A truly wonderful and incredibly atmospheric place in Mystras. This charming old mansion has been beautifully transformed into a hotel, with every detail carefully thought out. The atmosphere is stunning, making you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time while enjoying modern comfort. Everything is spotlessly clean, and the service is outstanding. Breakfast feels like being fed by your grandmother, with delicious homemade dishes focused on local specialties. There is also a lovely small garden with fruit trees, grapevines, and flowers, adding to the warm and peaceful feeling of the place. It is a truly remarkable hotel, and I highly recommend staying here when visiting Mystras.

Finding the Hotel Pyrgos of Mystra using Google Maps proved to be a little challenging as the software gave contradictory directions as we approached the hotel. There seems to be a glitch in the mapping that has resulted in 'ghost roads' being superimposed on the real ones (see accompanying screenshot of the relevant satellite view from Google maps). Anyway, once we got there, the hotel proved to be a delight. The beautiful building, which dates from the mid-nineteenth century, has been sensitively restored and is an oasis of tranquility and civilisation. Maria and Heidi immediately made us feel welcome. Our suite, which overlooked an orange grove and has spectacular views of Mount Taygetos as well as the fortress, evoked a real sense of history. It was also a novel experience to move up to a bed on a platform via a wooden spiral staircase. Breakfast, in an attractive frescoed room, was exceptional, with something for everyone. In short, we highly recommend this hotel.
