We spent a night in this ski resort hotel with its facade made out of slate produced in the region of Oppdal. It started badly with one of our three rooms, the one booked for a handicapped person not being provided due to lack of communication between outgoing and incoming personnel in the check-in counter. Rooms are basic, lacking little useful things like a long shoehorn, paper napkins and a shower mat. I should also have needed a swat to kill the two flies circulating around my head all night, a first during our long roadtrip around the north of Scandinavia. The quality of the breakfast is OK but during high affluence periods the staff is unable to cope with the workload. Overall, not a particularly positive experience. There is a paying parking belonging to the hotel that you do not need to use since there is ample nearby free street parking during the night and morning hours. Overall, not an experience in line with our expectations.
I stayed at the hotel twice with only a couple of days between each stay. Situated in the centre of Oppdal the hotel has a great location near anything worth doing in Oppdal. The hotel lobby is modern and stylish, the rooms seem to be a blend of modern minimalistic and a mountain lodge. The conference catering had a varied selection and was generally really nice. The breakfast was above average with everything you expect from a hotel breakfast. On my first stay I got a decent room on the top floor. Clean, with a big bed and a nice view. On my second stay I got a room that accommodated people with physical handicaps. This came in the form of an off-white shower curtain that would stick to the skin and wrap around the body when showering, as well as a set of armrests and adaptations to the toilet that were both uncomfortable and obstructive. Accommodating physical handicaps isn't an issue in itself of course, but I had neither requested or any need for such accommodations. This room also had 2 small beds (even though I had requested a room for 1 person). This room also lacked an ironing board, necessitating a trip with my shirts down to the reception to iron my shirts in their luggage room. This room was also stuffed with mud and snow covered snowboards and skis, causing mud spots all over my white shirts. None of the rooms had a fridge, so I had to either buy some overpriced soda/beer in the lobby, or enjoy my store bought soda/beer luke warm.
Arrived later at night. The hotel was nearly empty due to it being low season and one night cost about 1700 kr (This isn't a surprise since we came in on the day itself). The staff member was not too stoked to see us and mentioned it would probably be a little bit cheaper if we had booked it online instead of just shown up. Check out was already at 11 AM, naturally you can pay for a later check out but it was strongly suggested that you get strawberry and use that a lot to unlock the benefits the hotel might bring. Additionally we had to pay 180 NOK for overnight parking on a nearly empty parking lot. Breakfast was however included. This fine and I understand that these things cost money, but I do not feel that I got my money's worth, spending almost 2000 KR for a one night stay where we had to be out of the room within 12 hours. Maybe that's on for a late arrival, maybe it's on Quality Hotels to charge us extra for any little bit of service that you might have gotten at a local, still family run, hotel. Long story short: Nice hotel, probably great if you go to ski in town, for any other reason it is probably better to drive a bit further.
