Category: Attraction. If you are visiting Lisbon and are looking for a nearby winery to tour, or for an overnight stay, this is a great choice. This winery has been in operation since 1733 but the buildings underwent a recent renovation, resulting in an eleven-suite wine hotel (their term) surrounding a large but spartan courtyard with a beautiful tree in the middle, event spaces, and modern winery on a huge estate. We stayed two nights in what I give an 8 of 10 on my luxury scale. Our suite was modern, spacious, and well but minimally appointed, with an antique armoire, vaulted toungue-and-groove ceiling, marble bathroom, and balcony overlooking fields of grapes as far as the eye can see (see photos, which also include photos of some of the other ten suites, which seem to be all unique). The sprawling multi-room manor house has more social rooms than I can name (the photos will give you an idea). Breakfast was included, in a large dining room dominated by a Murano chandelier. Many choices and more food than we could eat, and there were only the two of us. We also scheduled a winery tour, expertly provided by one of the winemakers. We were amazed to learn that the winery has 1 million liters fermenting or maturing in tanks or oak barrels and another million liters maturing in bottles. The tour ended with a tasting of six of the winery’s 26 wines, accompanied by cheese, prosciutto, etc. We loved the visit and the small staff provided great service. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice
We loved the tranquil location, the lovely surroundings, the immaculate and beautiful buildings, the well presented breakfast and above all the welcome reception by Isabel. She made us feel at home from the first moment. We stayed for 3 nights and toured the surroundings where there a so many things to see. When leaving, we bought 12 bottles of wine made at the quinta, so we can continue to savour the experience at home. We would give 6 stars for price-quality if we could !
What a wonderful time we had! We were made to feel so welcome and so at home. The food was simply excellent and there is something for everyone's taste within the extensive selection of wines. My personal favourites are the sparkling wines (I'm sipping a glass of the Nana Rosé as I write this) and the Tinto Reserva. Situated on very high ground in the region, the views are stunning, especially from the viewing tower, from which you can see much of the estate and its vineyards. We also had a lovely view of the vines from our bedroom window and terrace. There's a shop on site to buy the wines and prices are very reasonable. We'll be back for sure. Até a próxima!
