The hotel is situated just 8 min of walking distance to the Barra beach and there is a supermatket just opposite of it. The room was clean and spacious. Bathroom sockets were hanging out of the wall, but that is normal for Brazil. The receptionist could be sharing a bit more information about the amenities during the check in. The breakfast buffet was diverse and the food was delicious. Overall, one of the better hotels I have stayed in Rio.
I can not understand where all the good ratings are coming from. My room had a bed which cracked with every move, my bed linen was ripped, there were hairs in the shower, and of course I am facing construction. But the worst problem I have is, that as soon as you turn A/C on it smells like mold and I get asthma. After changing the room to one only two doors farer, I have the same problem with the A/C and the hairs in the shower. The staff is not rude but also not helpful. The offered to clean the A/C but not one came and I wonder why they don’t do it regularly. I would love to adress this problem with a manager.
I had the absolute WORST experience at this Radisson location! I arrived at 9:30 AM hoping for an early check-in, only to be told that it wasn’t available. When I returned at 2:00 PM as instructed, my room still wasn’t ready. The front desk offered meal vouchers and asked me to wait another 30 minutes. I went to the restaurant and waited the full half hour—yet no one came to assist me. After all that waiting (1.5 hrs AFTER checkin time) they finally “threw me” into a room that was far from acceptable. Not only was it unprepared, but it was also infested with tiny ants. When I raised my concerns, I was told there were no alternative rooms available. To top it all off, at the end of my night, I found a brief note from the front desk apologizing for the inconvenience—a note that did nothing to justify being stuck in an ant-infested room or the fact that I missed the time to get tickets for the match i came to Rio to see. The only positive from my stay was Thyessa, the bartender at the pool. She had amazing energy, great vibes, and was truly the only bright spot in this entire experience. She also spoke English, which was a plus in Brazil! I chose Radisson based on wonderful past experiences in Dakar and Stockholm, but after this debacle, I won’t be returning. Spending money should guarantee quality service, not endless waiting, an unclean room, and an apology note that fails to make up for lost time and ruined plans. I had people tell me they’ve had better experiences at hostels. Book at your own discretion!
