I stay in this hotel a great deal for my job. It's the perfect city centre location and I find the rooms and communal areas are nicer than others at a similar price in the city. Best of all I really appreciate the staff who work in the hotel. I often stop at the bar for a quick drink at the end of the day, Crutard and Eve always remember me and ask how work is going. Last year, they even found out it was my birthday and arranged for a brownie with a candle! When I need t use the meeting rooms for business, I have found Engin to be the best M&E operator around. Polite, detail-orientated and takes great pride in doing a good job. It's a great hotel to stay in and use for work.
The hotel is a little run down. The rooms were not very clean, the TV took about 5 minutes to start up (and randomly turned itself on in the middle of the night) one of the draws was broken, one of the bed side lights broken and loads of dust behind the mirror. The curtains were also broken so was difficult to block out the outside lights. The breakfast is £15 per person and not worth it. We paid almost £700 for 2 nights and have had better stays in hotels at a lot lower cost than this. Reception couldn’t supply extra pillows until after 10:30pm. The bar area was nice and bar staff very friendly/helpful.
Central location of hotel makes it appealing. The room was of decent size and relatively clean. However the TV was not working despite multiple reminders to fix and their promises to do so. We were offered a free breakfast for this! Which was duly accepted. Front desk service was non existent and I would rate it pathetic! One would not expect such service from a reputable hotel. Breakfast at best was average with limited choice. The ground floor toilet reminded me of communal toilets in an Indian railway station (that awful smell)... thankfully not had the pleasure of using one in more than 40 years! However this experience will rekindle my PTSD. Overall I assume the staff are extremely overwhelmed, under trained and underpaid. It's the could not care attitude that destroys a business.
