Amambai Roots Lodges is a nice looking, somewhat well located option that on the surface looks nice, but based on my experience I would recommend you trying elsewhere. I’ve detailed in this review the experience I’ve had, and acknowledge it may not be the same as everyone, but even based on that, I would find a better location. We stayed here 24nd June 2022 for 2 nights. We paid using Qantas Frequent Flyer Points (Australian) and paid 25,796 points, equivalent to $221.12AUD or $19,069ARS total. The Room ★ ★ ☆☆☆ The lodge is very large and more than comfortably fits two people. The lodge we stayed in had a large patio, lounge area, a small kitchenette, a large bathroom, and a reasonable sized bedroom. The bedroom was extremely poorly lit, and even with all lights on, windows open in the middle of the day, I needed to use a torch to find items in the room. The bed was comfortable but only a single sleeping pillow was provided (however small square decorative pillows were also available). The bathroom was well sized with a giant shower. The shower, however, did not drain and the bottom over-filled each time we took a shower, and the water itself was freezing cold for all of our showers but one (and due to our activities we attempted to shower several times. The first time we showered it started off hot then went cold, and the next two days the water did not heat up at all. We told a staff member we saw walking around the lodge, but he did nothing about it. The bigger issue that I faced (and for me, having no hot water is already a big issue) is the noise. I’ve attached a video that poorly demonstrated the issue, but even with all windows and doors closed, the lodge is very, very, very noisy. It isn’t located on a particularly busy street, yet motorbikes were zooming past all night, every night. Some bar, I assume, nearby had loud music until roughly 6am both nights (admittedly it was over a weekend, so I don’t blame them by any means, but it’s a factor to consider if, like us, you have early morning touring plans), and there was some kind of pound or home for dogs nearby where they continued to bark, non-stop, all night. I cannot stress enough how loud the noises were, even if the video doesn’t demonstrate it well. The Hotel ★★☆☆☆ The complex itself is reasonable well located. A short stroll to the tres fronteras area with touristy shops and some good restaurants, and a longer stroll to the centro area, though a 5 minute taxi ride may be better. We didn’t realise in booking that the complex is part of a bigger hotel several hundred meters down the road, and check in, check out, reception, services, and breakfast all take part at that hotel, and so if you intend on using any services or having breakfast, you’ll be walking between the two complexes several times a day. This made check-in a little confusing as we were not advised this during booking, and upon arriving, had to ask around to some locals to find out what we were meant to do. The staff were helpful and happy to help out, with the exception of solving our hot water issue which seemed to have simply been ignored. The check in / out was very easy once we knew where were meant to go. Getting in and out of the complex is a bit of a pain. You need a gate remote and we were only given one, meaning we could not leave independently. The breakfast buffet was ok, but nothing special. As it caters for the main hotel and separate complexes, it got a little busy with tour groups getting ready for the day, and it had limited choices. I really would recommend looking elsewhere for no other reason than it seems cold water was a norm, and noise is a big factor. If these don’t bother you, then it is quite a nice stay!

If you want to sleep in a disgusting place that is not clean, then this is the place for you. We talked to the front desk about how filthy our lodge was and they sent someone to “clean” that evening. When returning, nothing we discussed was improved nor corrected. Making the bed and bringing new towels is not cleaning. That’s called organizing. I asked for a discount and the best they could do is allow us to use their complimentary services from 10am on our check out day to approximately 2pm and comp our waters we drank from the fridge. Disgraceful. The dishes smelled like rotten eggs and were not cleaned well. The mat they put them on to dry as you can see on the photo was filthy and covered in brown stains. There were cobwebs that haven’t been cleaned in weeks and the place was filled with bugs. The towels even had bugs on them. The lodge was filled with mold. This is not only disturbing, but extremely dangerous for peoples health. As me and my family had issues with extreme congestion and constant coughing throughout our time when we were inside the lodge. I have photos as proof. The bathroom shower didn’t even drain. We were standing in water. Nothing like taking a shower while you are standing in dirty water. It also gets cold at night. I went to grab the blankets from the closet and they smelt like wet dog or as if they had been sitting in the washer and never taken out to dry properly. When I went to open the blankets, there was a used bandaid attached to it. You cannot tell me you these were cleaned and sanitized properly. The bow on top was that when my mother in law went to use the bathroom and there was a scorpion. I advise anyone visiting Iguazú to save your money and stay elsewhere. In addition, Raíces Esturion is also associated with the Amambai roots Lodge and you have to check in at their other location and walk to the Lodge down the street. I would advise due to our experience to stay away from anything associated with this company as it has a lack of care clearly for its guest.
