Rancho Bernardo is giving Europe meets Bali opulence -- the vast estate proudly sits on a mountain side in contrast to the humble fields all around it. We were lucky to chance upon Rancho Bernardo during a travel fair at a very affordable rate, hence we were floored by the magnificence of the place. The amenities were top-notch, linens and robes luxurious, toiletries were Bulgari, and butler service impressive! The place is most suitable for those looking for a quiet staycation but max 2nights enough since you don't really need so much time to explore every space and activity within the resort. They arranged a day tour at the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar towards mid-afternoon which was a bit cheaper than Last Casas walk-in rates but we think it was a bit of a waste since we could have lingered longer at Las Casas where there was more to do and see, before retreating to our sanctuary at Rancho Bernardo. All in all, we would still gladly go back to Rancho Bernardo, next time with family and friends but what we'd do differently is dine elsewhere since quite a lot on the menu were unavailable, wait service took close to an hour, and food was not spectacular considering its price.
I stayed here for 3 nights over the weekend for my grandfathers wedding, and what an absolutely incredible place. The villas are simply stunning, and the staff are all lovely. This is truly the place to stay if you are looking for a hidden gem. The luxury title is very well deserved, and I know that if I am ever in Bataan again, I will stay at Rancho Bernardo.
Not impressed — poor customer service outweighs the good location For a professed "luxury mountain resort," Rancho Bernardo in Bataan did not meet expectations. I’m giving 2 stars — one for the location, and one for the spa (Arjay was accommodating and the massage was actually good, though pricey). Everything else was frustrating: 1. I confirmed via Viber that we could play pickleball. When we got there, they said it had to be before spa hours — so we scheduled it for 7am. The next morning, they suddenly said we couldn’t play because they needed to “set up the net.” We even brought our own gear. Totally inconvenient. 2. No à la carte menu for 2 days. They forced guests to get their expensive but limited buffet. No ketchup, either. Plus, they only served fish and veggies on buffet. The chef said they cannot accommodate the request for a bacon and hotdog. 3. The barista (Dominic) looked annoyed when we ordered. We asked about the pool wifi — he said only the IT team knows it. Are guests supposed to chase down IT now? 4. Can’t play basketball during spa hours because the court isn’t soundproof. Seriously? This place badly needs customer service training. If you’re paying for a "luxury" experience, you’ll be disappointed. Honestly, La Jolla is so much better. If you’re into bad service and being disappointed, then by all means, go.
