Ranua is a good place to be away from the Rovaniemi city buzz and experience the quietness. Staff was friendly and helped us book or SnowMobile tour and also answered all our touristy questions. The zoo is fantastic and a must visit for family. Rooms: FoxB : Very cozy place with a good kitchen and Sauna. The beds were comfortable. But all rooms have single beds which you can join and use as a double. Kitchen : The kitchen has everything you need. Just pop to the closest grocery store. We love the hike, So we walked to the nearest one. its about 25-30mins walk one way, or the reception will give you a ride as well. Fireplace: We used it once during our stay and it really helps to bring a ncie vibe to the place Sauna : Nice and easy to use and will keep you nice and warm The restaurant serves good breakfast. There are 2-3 different restaurants, where im sure you can get food during your stay. ** We arrived at 1900ish, which was the same time as the restaurant closes as well. Yuha from reception gave a headsup to the chef and they were super sweet to wait for us and make the last meal. We dont eat lot of meat, So the chef made a delicous chicken burger and we were set**
This is a beautiful property located in a tranquil setting. Check-in was quick as we arrived late and our cabin easy to find. Everything was neat and tidy. They truly have thought of everything so you don’t have to leave. However, I suggest a rental car if you like the freedom to come and go like we do. The car came in handy to get groceries from in town so that we could cook at least one meal a day for ourselves. I would stay here again. My only recommendation is to provide robes and slippers since there is a sauna in the cabin. It would be nice to have as you only receive one bath towel per person for your stay.
Actually everything was wonderful except for three things: 1) Breakfast was delivered to the door the evening before at 4 p.m. This included for one person: 1 apple, 200 ml milk, 1 croissant, 1 yogurt, 1 sandwich with ham and cheese, 1 smoothie, 1 mini butter, 1 bag of oatmeal. The whole thing cost €10. I recommend booking the cabin without breakfast and spending the money you save at the bakery in Ranua, 2.8 km away. 2) We extended our stay by one day, without breakfast. Although we saved the staff work, we didn't get fresh towels or new "dry" firewood for the stove. That would have cost €10 extra. Remember, if we had checked out and then rebooked, we would have had firewood again for the same price in another cottage. 3) A cute stuffed polar bear was sitting on the sofa. Of course our child wanted the animal. It was completely overpriced. A really nasty psychological trick. Ultimately, you get the feeling that you are just being ripped off. The tickets for the zoo also cost around €20 per person. It wasn't that special. $10-15 would have been appropriate.
