After 2 weeks of traveling and having a variety of experiences, it was comforting to know that I could count on the consistency of a Marriott Renaissance experience for our last two nights. Room quiet; comfortable and great amenities. Beautiful marble bathroom, lovely rooftop dining for breakfast, and great location. They even loaned me an electric converter at no charge, since I had brought the wrong one; although with the usb outlets I could have done without it. Plenty of hangers and closet space for two people. Views from the rooftop are delightful. Hot tubs and sauna available, although I didn’t actually use them.
Rooms are small and outdated, location is perfect and view out of the window is to die for. Front desk staff was not very friendly and gets visibly annoyed when questions come up. Bizarre interaction: the ferry port is 900 metres(0.5 miles) away from the hotel and we asked front desk agent how much taxi would cost. Without blinking an eye he said 30(!) Euros. I understand we are tourists and tendency is to overcharge and rip off, but as hotel guests we expect hotel employees to look out for us. In many Marriott properties across the world I experienced employees to advice the best way because tourists dont know the local customs. But not at this property! It just felt condescending with blatant disregard for the guests interests. Like he lives in this city, would he pay that much himself?! If you arriving late at night, there is no one to help with bags/take them to your room, so you pretty much on your own there too. 3 front desk agents will just look at you drag your bags into tiny elevator. Breakfast however was well organized with nice variety of options and gorgeous view, absolutely recommend that. I'm just not sure good breakfast would make me want to come back here.
I am so sad because I really loved Naples but our hotel stay wasn't comfortable. I wanted to stick to Marriott and this was the only option in the area. With my experience, I wouldn't pick this location again. Room: POOR. Room was very outdated. The sofa at the bottom of our bed had streaks of stain on it and was so gross. We ended up asking for a blanket to cover so we could use it as extra seating due to lack of additional seating in the room. Bathroom was very tired and the only thing I liked about it was the big unusable window to provide some light. Every time we showered, water got out every where and even sipped into the main room... Location: OK. Close to the train station and some hubs. But it was not a great walk. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking by myself. Service: POOR. Staff at the rooftop bar and restaurants are good. But front desk staff was not welcoming at all and gave me attitudes during check in. Noteworthy: what's up with the tiny elevator doors? One of the elevators stopped randomly with only 2 of us in there one day. This caused me to be extremely nervous the rest of the stay if anything else could happen.
