Great place to stay in Flores. Handmade breakfast with spectacular views of the falls to the chirping of birds. The start of all hiking trails, the beach is within walking distance. The owners are extremely friendly, helpful and very discreet. I enjoyed staying there and I highly recommend it!
Simple rooms with a very hospitable host (host speaks perfect English). We had the room with two separate beds and a private bathroom. Small downside for us was the bathroom being on the other side of the hallway and that the lock of the bathroom didn't work to well. Location of the hostel is perfect! Close by the only cascade you can swim in, by a shop and in the middle of all the restaurants. 5 stars to Octavio for doubling up as our taxi from and to the airport, as well as dropping us off at the start of the west coast trail hike. He was even nice enough to make a small detour to some of the viewpoints because we were a bit to early when returning to the airport. Thanks for that opportunity Octavio!
The staff is not helpful and only think about making money. I don't recommend this place at all. Unfortunately I made a wrong reservation and paid a total of 210 € for 3 nights. I asked to cancel it 3h after making the reservation. They didn't accept, didn't explained why and kept my money, despite my explanation. I am really chocked by this attitude, more over in the difficult times we are facing. I was thinking that I could meet some generous people in the beautiful Island of Flores. It won't be at Residencial Mateus.
