Rethymno Mare Royal & Water Park

Nice place, super-friendly staff. Room for improvement food-wise (all in all, more than acceptable, however!). Swimming pools, small water park and bars near them all ok (nice cocktails - speak to the bar tenders, they are lovely!). The beach is located across the road, which entails walking a short while... Decent value for money, even if a bit isolated; if you don't want to pay for the all-inclusive rate you will need a car to go to the nearby villages...

Some days ago probably it was a 5 star hotel, but now it just renovation. It is quite big with 3 pools. Free umbrellas and deck chairs at the beach which is a + Hotel is mainly focused on french guests and it's very visible. Most animations only in french, french music etc. Rooms are medicore (not as good as in 3/4 stars hotel in Norway for Example). Cleaning services are not the best (for some reason they didn't swipe the floor for a week, only if they saw something very visible they cleaned this particular part). Service is very nice, especially elder man in Hermes Restaurant, who welcome guests. He is like from 5 star hotel, rest not at all, but they are friendly and tries to help (but part of the staff probably doesn't speak english even if they are serving the guests :) ). Bartenders in all 3 bars are rather not interested in making good drinks. Only 1 young guy knew how and was willing to use shaker for example. ;) Food: Quite limited choice, and I have a suspicion that yellow cheeses and cold cuts are very cheap or just not tasty. Greek cheese is very nice and most of the dishes from Greek cusine are great. Meat- it depends... Great greek sweets (Baklavas and 2 types of cakes- one with cloves and nuts, second citrus with honey).

A/C works fine. Rooms are okay for the price. Food is okay, not much variation and sometimes overcooked. Pool area is good. Suspect that the post-mix soda is using regular unfiltered tap-water
