Riverstone Karamea

Had the absolute pleasure of staying here this past weekend. A very relaxed and tranquil setting overlooking the river, set against a bush backdrop. The chalet had everything we needed and was very clean and comfortable. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

Great accommodation after the Heaphy Track. Very clean and welcoming. The spa pool was an extra bonus for our tired bodies. Highly recommend. Would definitely stay again should we be up that way.

Rudest host we have had in decades of traveling. We were made to feel unwelcome the moment we checked in but check out was where the host became truly unhinged and downright mean. Plus they cut off our hot water for a whole morning with no compensation. One of the hosts came by the night before checkout and advised they had a job they wanted to do on the water tank in the AM which would mean no hot water. We said that was fine and they asked what time we wanted to check out - we said 10-10:30 which they said was fine. The following morning the other host knocked on the door at 9:45 and told us we had 10 minutes to get out as they wanted to drive to Nelson. No forewarning the night before, no regard for our last convo with the other host the night before, no courtesy about us being ok not having hot water the whole morning so they could complete a job even though they offered no compensation for this. I tried to reason with her but she just got ruder and angrier. I decided there was no point arguing with someone so mean and unstable so just threw everything in the car to sort out later. Don’t stay with this unprofessional and unkind host. We loved karamea but their attitude has lost them a repeat customer.
