Great hotel, right in the center of the city. Within walking distance from all the landmarks and attractions. Very friendly staff and good breakfast options. Due to the fact that it's near some bars and clubs, it's pretty noisy at night, especially when there's an event or holiday. That for me was the only downside and flaw. I think they should replace the windows and install better isolating ones (that's where the sound came in). They give you a set of earplugs (or at least I had a set waiting for me), so they know very well that there's a noise problem. For any light sleepers out there - you may want to skip staying here until the problem is fixed. But overall, very nice hotel. Totally recommended for a visit to Riga. Try the room at the 6th floor - the views are fantastic.
The best feature of this hotel is of course the location. Right in the middle of the old town. The room was huge and clean. You get complimentary instant coffee and tea. Personal was friendly. The breakfast was good you could even have a glass of champagne. Unfortunately even though the room was huge, the toilet was much smaller with the basin blocking partially the toilet. The TV had only one English channel and it was the Chinese news channel. The internet got extremely slow in the evening.
Location superb in old town. Soviet era decor. Lobby large with 1970s style chairs and lighting. Desk staff cheerful. There is a small elevator. Exiting the elevator on my floor revealed a depressing site. Brown carpet. Brown wallpaper, brown doors and poor lighting. Oddly, despite there are no A and B wings to the hotel, my room was labeled C #. I opened the door to a huge room, again Soviet style. 1975 on a bad day. One hanging light fixture with 2 bulbs in it, fake leather sofa, a large low platform bed with ill fitting sheets, and a desk. The bed and desk had additional lights which are supposed to be adjustable, but are broken. The closet had an assortment of hangers including a bent wire one. The bathroom was another severe disappointment. One light fixture above the sink. The toilet faces the sunk with less than a foot of space between them. The sink was apparently recently replaced with a large vessel one leaving very very little room on the tiny counter for toothpaste, toothbrush, comb. The tub/shower is beside the sink with a half panel of glass making it impossible to turn on the water until you are already in the tub. Water pressure was decent (not great) from the single shower head (no hand held shower wand). There is a soap dispenser in the shower/tub and one beside the sink, so bar soap is, unfortunately, not supplied. Shampoo and body lotion is. My room faced the street, and the restaurant across provided loud live music. It stopped by 11pm. The curtains provided no darkness at all. The sun began to rise at 3am, and my room was bright. There is a staircase, with an outstandingly handsome railing. Don't miss it as it is the only charming and quality item in this hotel. The sign in front of the hotel says 4 stars and I cannot imagine in what world that is.
