Rixwell Old Riga Palace Hotel

Great staff, fabulous location (in the centre, near the train station and bus station)... walked everywhere. We stayed here twice. The first time the beds were a bit old but the second room seemed to have new beds. The only pity... plastic mattress protectors which we really don't like. That's why we have given 4 stars and not 5. But would highly recommend the hotel for value for money.

The Rixwell is an older hotel right inside the Old City of Riga. It can be difficult to find if you are driving. There are limited ways to reach by car and parking (15 Euro/ nite) is marginal. Breakfast is well worth the price and there is a great selection to choose from. The rooms are adequate, but our double beds were old, creaky wooded frame, rolled into the middle and uncomfortable. Management is upgrading the outside facade now and consider upgrading the mattresses. The hotel is within walking distance to everything and the rates are reasonable for the value. Overall a good, clean, safe place to stay.

This is most definitely NOT a four star hotel. Staff are friendly and location is good for the old town. The hotel is very run down and my room was tiny. I had a single bed (I was in a single room, so ok) but the bed was very small. I am 5 foot 4 inches tall and small build, I barely fit in it. As for the shower, absolutely tiny! The net curtains were filthy and yellow and overall the room smelt damp. I booked this through the British Airways website and I am shocked they have it advertised as four star. It felt more like a hostel. Do not be fooled by the photos of rooms on the website.
