Rose City Motel

Very clean and reasonably priced rooms. Have stayed there a lot over the years.

Spacious rooms, luxurious bathroom, SkyTV on a huge 50+ inch TV - all great until we met the tiny and uncomfortable double bed. We reserved this hotel on our way back from Taupo, relying on a website that said reception closed at 9:30. Surprisingly, we received a call at 8:40 informing us we had until 9 to check-in. Rushing to arrive by 8:57 PM, we found the reception closed and the lights off. After a call, we were begrudgingly allowed in, only to be hit with a $200 bond demand not disclosed beforehand. Customer service? Let's just say it was less than stellar

While everything else was nice and convenient for us, my friends and I went to turn the oven on to try and make our breakfast and as soon as we go to turn the oven knob it came off. The lovely lady had acknowledged us and said her boss will come to fix it. The older man —walks in without acknowledging us, four teenage girls in there and he didn’t even once knock or acknowledge us, then starts accusing us of using force and saying it’s very expensive and costs $100 for it and left. My mother had argued with him on the phone , he came back and showed us it was a faulty on the inside —it wasn’t our fault but he came off too headstrong, you just don’t give that sort of service like that, it was rude. Ripped pages in the book, I wouldn’t come back again. We had left the key on the dining table, and the owner had been claiming it isn’t there and wants to charge us, he swore at my mother on the phone and hung up! Wouldn’t recommend, highly dodgy and rude.
