Guest Reviews 4.1 / 5
We stayed at Hôtel Royal Genève for one night, and the experience was overall excellent. We were given a deluxe room and were told we were among the very first guests to stay in it, which felt special. The space was thoughtfully designed, with a separate bedroom, a sitting area that converted into a second full-size bed for our child, a small kitchenette, and a well-separated washroom and toilet—each with its own sink. The room had two televisions—one for the bedroom and one for the sitting area—which made the layout feel more like a mini-suite. The lighting was also well-coordinated, with multiple options to adjust the ambiance to our liking. The use of space in the room was smart and efficient. Toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and shower gel were provided. However, we had to request additional essentials such as room slippers, a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a comb. Since our stay was unplanned due to a missed train, we had no personal items with us and expected these basics to be readily available in the room. The ambiance of the hotel was elegant and welcoming. Breakfast was decent, though there’s definitely room for improvement in variety and quality. All in all, Hôtel Royal Genève offered a very comfortable and well-designed stay. With a few small improvements in amenities, it could be truly exceptional.
We stayed here as a part of a pre planned tour group and therefore did not choose this hotel. Rating this hotel 2 stars simply because it does have running water and a bed. Upon entering we were informed that the AC was broken, and for compensation the hotel would offer welcome drinks. In our hotel room, we were presented a fan which helps only minimally move the warm air around. During our stay, temperatures were in the mid 70s and sunny. Our room does have windows that open, which we used to help cool down the room in the evening. However, there is a significant amount of noise from the streets which limited this use in cooling down our room especially at night, which made sleeping in this room nearly impossible. While I lay awake at night unable to sleep, I discovered that many other reviews, also complained of a broken AC. These reviewers were completed several months before my stay. Mysteriously though, the AC in the lobby seems to work just fine… Showering here is another feat. As pictured, we were provided with a tub with a steep climb and no support, making this very dangerous. The shower is placed in the middle of the tub where the only covered portion is the side of a towel rack, which further limits space and therefore we were constantly bumping our head on the towel rack. It is not practical at all. We inquired about the fitness center as on the weekends it is listed as opening at 9am. Since our tour started earlier than that, I was hoping to use this before showering and heading out for the day. We were told we can access this using key cards, but they were not able to used earlier. It is not practical to have this severely limited and not at the convenience of guest use especially as it seems that multiple tour groups use this hotel. So, in summary, after a long day of touring, you are coming back to your hot, noisy room with a shower that cannot be used. The room is very dated. Looking at previous reviews, it seems that those are known problems without any change. I am baffled at the fact that this remains a “4 star hotel”. At best, this is 2 stars.
Terrible experience, by far the worst hotel night of my life. The room had clearly not been cleaned for months and the bed was full of dust, I woke up with a strong sinusitis that is still going strong after 1 week. Thanks a lot. When I went into the shower in the morning, the hot water tap was not working, so cold shower in a 4-star hotel. And lastly, people doing rodeos with their motorcycles at 2 AM on the main street, and the windows are so thin that you hear everything.
