The experience was super nice and we enjoyed it really well. They even served halal food but I was very hesitant to try it, in my opinion it should have been mentioned in the website and the menu etc. Great Dutch hospitality going above and beyond to make everyone feel included. I had difficulty finding the safari hotel though, the location link in confirmation email was misleading especially if you are travelling by public transport like myself and also because the place is big.I would recommend navigating yourselves by setting the destination ex- safari park. The experience with the animals were close enough and amazing but I wish the bus safari was available during summer.
Ants in the lodge. I'm not talking 1 or 2, they were everywhere, crawling all over the floors, walls, beds and kitchen side. Finally talked them into giving us another lodge, then we spent a few hours cleaning it with Dettol as none of them are properly cleaned - seems they only clean the floors, windows and change the bedding when you leave. Place was also covered in geese poo. Yes, I know, it's all about the animals so maybe you should expect it, but there was no prior warning about it. All the paths were covered in it and the grassy/sandy areas out the back were full of it. Our 3 year old came in with it all on his hands, feet and clothes a few times. Was told by another guest that the beach at Speeland also gets covered in it but a tractor comes every morning and scoops it into the lake. Her husband and children went in the lake and apparently stunk because of it. We didn't bother going. The safari park was decent, and I think the Netherlands in general is great. But this wasn't what we were hoping for, we were thankful we only stayed for 7 days and not longer.
Don't get me wrong. The staff on the floor are great. The problem is management seems to be treating this as a cash cow. We stayed for two nights... Our accommodation was dirty, as was the floor. They had some kind of TV radio event on so they moved the food for the animals away from the premium accommodation that normally overlooks the wildlife. They clearly wanted the animals to be in front of the stage, not in front of the guests that had paid to have a front row seat. They were very understaffed, trying to order food or drinks to can eternity. The tables were dirty and not cleared. Every time we went for food we had to clear our own table before we could sit down. The swimming pool was closed both days, apparently due to technical issues though I expect this may have been to provide more power for the TV radio thing.
