The penthouse room is great value because it's big enough for a catch up with friends and very private. The decor is a little bit tired but it's clean and has a full kitchen.
We booked by phone and the process was friendly and easy, as was the confirmation process after getting an email with check in instructions. It was super clear to check in at Lenna of Hobart and the reception staff were fantastic when we did check in - so friendly and helpful. The apartment however, was a fraction underwhelming. Although large and clean, it wasn’t welcoming. It truly could have used a lamp in the lounge area and although there was bedding for 5 (only four of us stayed), there were only comfy chairs around the TV for three. The kitchen had “dings” out of the laminate on benches and cupboards, carpet was old and pulled in places and the bathroom is well overdue for refurbishment with discoloured grout and mould behind some fittings on the shower screen. We were also surprised to arrive and find provided tea/coffee included one hot chocolate for four of us, thankfully a call to reception led to some extra tea and hot chocolate very quickly (and again huge points to reception staff). Beds were comfy, the unit was spacious and the location was spectacular. So, given we were out and about or explore the Salamanca markets this place was fine, but if you’re planning to sit in your apartment for some winter crafting or reading to just enjoy the “ambience” of Hobart then maybe try another property of this group because the Salamanca Terraces are more “utilitarian” (and perhaps a little “sparse” than romantic or luxury. Clearly you are paying for location and space rather than romance and comfort.
We stayed here for 2 nights at the end of our time in Hobart as our lovely room in Salamanca Suites was not available. It was not even close to the same standard and disappointing, the worst accommodation we had in 6 weeks in Australia. The reviews on Salamanca suites are consistently very good and indeed this was our experience. I had expected the same at the Terraces but had not done my due diligence in checking reviews. On the plus side, the location is great and there in on site parking. On the minus side everything else falls well short of the standards in the Suites. The rooms are fairly basically fitted out and feel in need of an upgrade, the blackout curtains wouldn't fully close to the wall and the bathroom was grubby. The windows are single glazed and the room was noisy - traffic noise and even conversions of pedestrians on the pavement were intrusive so it didn't make for a great night's sleep. The studio was tiny. There are no cooking facilities, no safe, the freezer in the fridge was tiny and not cold enough on arrival to make ice. There is a laundry but in another building and coin operated rather than complementary. At a similar price point to the lovely rooms in the Suites, this was not only very disappointing but represented extremely poor value for money. If Salamanca Suites are available then do stay as they are excellent, but if they are booked out I would suggest you give the Terraces a miss.
