From the moment we pulled up to the day we left the property, our stay was absolutely amazing. Everyone from the staff to the guests were all very nice. Our room and bathroom was pretty spacious, but they do need some remodeling. They remind me of rooms you would see in Europe - the old Victorian look. You can also choose a room with a walk-out balcony which we enjoyed. If you want to come to a resort that offers hiking, a horse stable, tennis, basketball, and so many other activities… this is the place to be! Breakfast was great with a good amount of options to choose from. Dinner was good as well. We also ventured off the property for lunch and a winery not far from the property. By the way, there are several wineries in the area. This is a must place to visit. Don’t forget to take a good look at the wall gallery by the front desk for a trip down history! We plan on coming back again and checking out the other amenities - including the resort style pool that was still under renovation. Thank you to the staff for making our stay a memorable one.

Visited the Salamander Resort to celebrate our anniversary and make use of a gift card we received for our wedding a few years prior. The property is beautiful, however a bit dated…I would describe the ambiance as “old money”, with a bit of a musty smell in the hallways. The room was nice, clean and spacious with pleasant amenities. Robes and slippers provided were a nice touch but definitely showing significant wear. The dining at Harriman’s was quaint, with an old world elegance. The food was excellent, service was courteous. Unfortunately we were swatting rogue flies away from our table throughout the dinner. Upon checkout we had a discrepancy over our gift card and the concierge, rather than solving the issue with a 5 star resort level of service, let us know what all he could not do for us. We ultimately received the service we expected, but not without an extensive argument and wait. Rather than leaving us wanting to return, we left choosing to spend our money elsewhere. The resort is obviously struggling financially as the guests were sparse. With the level of service we received, it seems unlikely that they will be able to entice repeat guests to sustain the level of luxury the resort boasts.

Food service was terrible. Long wait to get into breakfast. Long wait to receive food. Overall food is average, but prices are very high. Rooms including bathrooms need refreshing. Don’t waste your money on a room with a fireplace. You can barely see the fire. Kids club is not much to brag about.occasionally kids left at pool without supervision. The town is small, boring and very few restaurants. Not much to do around the area except for wineries. They say they are five star hotel. That is simply not true. I think it’s safe to say that they are a four star hotel. Not worth traveling to as a destination, if you live more than 90 minutes away. Look for future in depth reviews in major east coast city magazines. est coast publications.
