I stayed in Sanctum a year ago, so this review is long overdue. I came for 2 nights and ended up extending for another week. The accommodation is the best you’ll find on the Togeans, the food is delicious and the dive center is one of the most professional I have encountered - briefings are clear, the equipment is in good condition, safety always comes first and there’s a great vibe with the team. And yes, Cedrick is a character- be ready for some tough love
We loved staying in Sanctum Una Una so much that we spontaneously extended our stay and even did a couple of certifications with them: I did my rescue certification that included the deep specialisation with instructor Lola (who is fantastic btw!) and my partner joined me for the deep cert. On top they certified us for Nitrox for free. Even diving on nitrox at no extra charge is a gift (we realised after several dives on air in another place). Well and the diving is amazing! I’d say it’s special for the healthy corals; you have beautiful walls, huge sponges and good chances of spotting megafauna, too. But the best really is the great team and the vibe of this place: my partner has been to Sanctum 8 years ago, when it was still kind of new, small and basic, and before it changed owners. The way they managed to preserve this special family vibe and sense of community despite growing and upgrading facilities for more and more comfort is impressing. Everyone always eats together and hangs out to make music and sing after dinner: guests, dive guides and other staff. Also, Cedric, the owner, is always available, easy to approach and, of course, very welcoming. This is not a given in a dive resort like this! The bungalow we stayed in was brand new, all wooden, very nice, and - considering all that - affordable . The food is not as cheap but very good, diverse, and therefore worth any penny. So, overall very good value for money. Can recommend 100% and will hopefully be back soon!
I stayed with my family. No complaints about the place. Beautiful island, good facilities, free bikes to tour around and volleyball in the evening. At risk of being chastised by the owner, i feel i should say something here for those who cannot. The (lovely) staff are far too controlled and fearful of the owner. We saw some in tears. Also as an experienced diver, i was sorry to see beginner divers being treated terribly by the owner and even shouted at. This should never happen. Patience and empathy have gone on holiday here.
