The best Ryokan gardens in all of Japan. Very spacious rooms, incredible architecture and wonderful service. Just finished my second visit and will return.
Lived up to expectations. Brought my family here on their first Japan visit. All they had heard from me was how amazing a ryokan experience would be. I was a little worried that this hotel was a little past it’s prime, but that was not the case. Our room - suite really- was enormous, with a private onsen that was always perfectly comfortable. The western bed option was appreciated but we had one futon sleeper. The gardens are gorgeous and relaxing. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were quite impressive, especially the variety of the dinner and the perfect profession. All in a perfect stay that was only about getting lost in the destination itself. One night definitely enough but highly recommended.
Love the heritage architecture and beautiful private gardens that is featured in the middle of the property with standalone individual houses that make you feel like you are an absolute world away and a step back in time. The scenery and atmosphere is well maintained, highly manicured to give a truly unwinding and relaxing experience if you are fortunate enough to be staying in one of the individual houses that also feature its own private onsen. Meals are meticulously prepared, thoroughly enjoyed both dinner and breakfast with the freshest local ingredients and excellent culinary prepared with excellence. This Ryokan is part of the Prince Hotel group, offers complimentary onsite parking. Couple of points I did not rate it with full marks is the individual houses do need to have a little bit more focus on maintenance and improvements to ensure longevity and preserving it for the future. While the meals were great, there could have been more effort in explanation of the dishes, how they should be best enjoyed. Finally, the futon mattress could do with more thickness and also offering more than 1 pillow would be a worthy comfort addition for a good night's rest.
