Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges

Great wee hotel and ace Staff. I recently shot a wedding there and it was the perfect venue for a small wedding and the staff bent over backwards to make the day special for the couple. Also, they really looked after us wedding vendors with a delicious meal and drinks to keep us going!

We had a great overnight stay here. The staff were very welcoming and our romm was very comfortable indeed. We had dinner in the restaurant (reservations necessary) and the dishes we had were both excellent with great sauces and amazingly fresh fish. The breakfast was similarly glorious with very tasty items in the full Scottish. Nice location very handy for a lot of locations of interest around the NE Scotland area. Path to the rail path network is just 30yds from gate. Haddo House and other sites of interest a short drive away. A gem of a place hidden away in the quiet countryside .

We ate at the restaurant about a little while ago for our wedding anniversary and were excited to go as we had seen some great reviews and are locals to the area. We made reservations for ourselves and our 1 year old baby. We were seated in the snug bar even though the dining room did not appear full and while it was a cozy area, we felt it put us iout of the path of staff for when we wanted things. We both ordered the waygu beef burgers and ordered the bangers and mash for our son. The baby's food came out really quickly but the mashed potatoes had a thick skin/film on it and we struggled to cut through the sausages. I'm not sure if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while or were microwaved quickly but it wasn't very appetising for us adults or for the baby. Our burgers came out and while we enjoyed the salads and chips that came with the meal (the dressing on both the salad and coleslaw were tasty) the burgers were so overcooked that they were rubbery and I couldn't finish mine. Maybe we just came in on an off day but none of our food (bar the side salad) was very tasty, we felt like we had been hidden in a back room, and while one staff member was very pleasant, the other seemed to be having a bad day and took it out on us. It made a special day not very nice. Unfortunately we won't be coming back anytime soon.
