Scandic Malmen

I had a lovely stay and overall experience at Scandic Malmen. The highlight for me was definitely the location — right in the heart of Södermalm, making it incredibly convenient for exploring Stockholm’s vibrant atmosphere. Medborgarplatsen Metro Station is right next to the hotel, providing easy access to the city’s transport network. It is also not far from Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s charming Old Town. You can walk there in about 17 minutes (1.4 km) or take the subway from Medborgarplatsen to Gamla Stan Metro Station, which takes just 3 min. The Swedish buffet breakfast was another standout feature — great variety of traditional and international options. It was the perfect way to start the day! (Tip: loved the ginger shot!) I also tried the gym during my stay. While it’s quite a small space with only three pieces of fitness equipment, some mats, and various weights, it served its purpose for a quick workout, and it's usually not crowded in the morning. If you're looking for a full-fledged gym, this might not be ideal, but for basic exercise, it does the job. In terms of price and quality, Scandic Malmen offers a reasonable balance. The rates are generally affordable compared to other central Stockholm hotels, making it a good value for money option. The rooms are comfortable, especially the bed, and the service is friendly. Overall, among the best options in Stockholm.

This review is based on gym and breakfast. Gym was old but had free weights up to 140kg, a squat stand and two adjustable incline benches. Got a solid upper body workout done. Towels and water glasses were available. Breakfast was quite comprehensive, nothing too special stood out, nice with fresh herbs to put on your food and different smoothies (mango chili was my favorite). All in all, good hotel for gym&breakfast.

The location couldn't be better, metro station is literally around the corner and the staff is nice and very friendly. The breakfast was a very pleasant surprise, specially for the excellent price, but you need to book your attendance in advance which I kept forgetting. One extra thing to plan during your vacation as if you didn't have enough already. On the downside, there's no room service, and there's no phone in the rooms, you need to call a local number from your mobile, so good luck contacting the reception if you have an eSIM with just data. The room was clean but it's not acusticaly isolated, you will hear everything going on on the big avenues next to the hotel. One of the lamps in our room also made a buzzing sound when turned off.
