I stayed at Scandic Vaasa and had a good experience overall. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was nice with a good variety of options. The only downside was that the breakfast area felt a bit small, especially during busy hours. Still, it was a pleasant stay and I would recommend the hotel.
It has been clear that the old Scandic Vaasa does require renovation and, in fact, it has been going on for a longer while. However it is impossible to stay on the room during daytime due to the noise. Luckily I was away but I suggest to restrict the part that is close to the ongoing works. I also hope that the renovation will bring some clarity abt the access to the second hotel building - at the moment you have to be at least PhD to (1) find, and (2) use the secondary elevator.
My "superior" and severely outdated room doesn't have airco, is dark (few lights), has a dark mirror in the bathroom, has the toilet in front of the sink so I can't reach the sink (wtf?!), has a paper thin front door so I hear all the noise in the hallway (including the squeaking floor and the banging hallway door), needs 2 elevators and a confusing maze to reach, has a dirty toilet, no night stands, no power plugs near the bed, something above the bed for you to hit your head on, and has a TV that keeps crashing/rebooting. All this for an extortionate price. Absolute appalling.
