Schmittenhöhe

Amazing Hotel on top of the mountain, access via cable Car, good and clean rooms, sauna with top view. We love it all in all. Friendly staff, good quality food, lot of hiking routes around, a different experience. Absolutely will come back.

This was one of our 'must-sees' on our European tour and the view does not disappoint. It's absolutely breathtaking! What does disappoint is the dreadful service from a very surly waiter who treated my request for decaf coffee with barely disguised disdain.(They don't have any!) The worst thing is the pop music blaring out over this magical place as if it's just an ordinary resort. I asked for it to be turned down but was ignored. Incredible insensitivity to the location. Btw the Hochzeller Inn down the path is much nicer and friendlier (but still has music playing!)

After making a booking on Booking.com (non-refundable), I received a message from the property stating that “it is only possible to drive up to the hotel using the Schmittenhöhe gondola lift by 04:30 PM at the latest.” This critical information was not disclosed prior to confirming the reservation and was only added to the listing after my emails and complaints. Due to this omission, I was unable to proceed with my stay as this requirement did not align with my travel plans. What made matters worse is that the hotel completely ignored my emails and messages - without even an acknowledgment - which is unacceptable and highly unprofessional. I have been traveling for over two decades and have never encountered such poor and unethical customer service.
