First time trip to Porto...Fantastic city and a more than fantastic hotel! Se Catedral Hotel Porto is an outstanding property with a great location and fantastic staff that's warm and attentive to your needs. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed. Very eclectic property with an abundance of neon signs, yes, neon signs, as decoration! Each room has its own...ours read "Let's stay in bed"...Okay!... One of the highlights was meeting Marie in the restaurant. Each morning she greeted us with a smile and bit of "snarkiness"! I loved it! She had my number from the minute I met her...but in the end, she loves what she does; taking care of guests. I'm in the hotel business, 37 years, and I know the internal customer is the most important customer, because if the team member is happy...it will be passed on to the guest through a true heartfelt experience. She literally made my day each morning. The General Manager, Bruno Miranda has hired well at Se Catedral Hotel Porto and is running an outstanding hotel Great location, if I haven't mentioned it...easy walk to all the sights and sounds of this beautiful city, Porto, Portugal. We'll be back!
We had a room on the ground floor and had to walk a maze to get to our room. The window was on an interior courtyard. The room layout is funky. There is no bathroom, there’s a shower stall to your right from the entry corridor and a toilet to your left just opposite. So when you step out of the shower you are literally stepping into the entry hall of your room. The sink is in the interior of your bedroom, the mirror is not behind the sink but on the side wall. Not sure why the room was designed this way, to save space? The location is really central, busy and noisy. Breakfast was decent and the staff there were always helpful. We had a reservation to return to this hotel after visiting another city. We paid for a room with no natural light at the end of a long hall. I thought the front desk people were not very kind, helpful or gracious and not interested in helping us with a better room for our return visit. So after that we decided to cancel our next reservation and booked somewhere else that we liked better and was less expensive.
We recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and were very disappointed at the room allocated to us. It was Floor -1 so the room was located below the entrance and reception with no view at all. The room was very dark and unwelcoming and also painted dark green to add to the gloom. We had to have lights on during the day. This booking had been made last year and being for 4 nights we expected to be allocated a better room, not the basement. Also the set of 3 stairs needed to reach the lift does not have a rail and I fell down one of the days leaving the building. I thought it should have been a mandatory safety measure to be installed. The location was very good but no, I wouldn’t stay here again. Did not enjoy this hotel at all. If you have a booking already insist that you aren’t allocated the basement.
