Booked this place for a one night stay in York. Rooms and facilities are a bit dated but very clean and well presented. Remote check in was handled well with clear instructions for accessing the property. Good central location and the place is quiet and peaceful at night. Expected a bit more for the price, like firmer pillows, a more comfortable mattress and basic toiletries like soap and toothpaste to be provided. Will probably stay again if the rates were a little lower.
OMG what an experience. Don't be fooled this hotel does not have a reception, despite the fact they say it's open 9 to 5. The phone is answered by an AI robot when the humans are busy the robot couldn't even get my booking reference correct. It also couldn't tell me that my booking had been cancelled unbeknown to me so now I'm stranded without a room, to be fair they did give me phone numbers of a couple of other hotels with rooms but really I got the feeling that I was an inconvenience! The reason they gave for the cancellation was power issues but the power looked just fine toe. It is part of a bigger complex within the settlers villiage although independently owned. Do yourself a favor a use the Settlers House or Castle Hotel. They have real people, a reception to check in at and more importantly great service. The Settlers Hotel was a terrible experience, I can't speak for the rooms as I never got that far and I'm kind of pleased I didn't. Update as per the owners reply. You had my contact details otherwise you wouldn't have been able to call me back so dont lie. A young lady called me back and told me my booking had been cancelled. Unknown to me, I will deal with this situation separately.
Be very careful Settlers hotel is a house. There is no Settlers hotel as this does not exist. To add to the confusion Settlers House is the hotel in the area from which the photos are taken. When you find there is no checkin and try to call the property, the number given connects to NSW who have no idea about this property. Avoid at all costs!!!!
