Location! Location! Location! Shama Central is a great option for those looking for a spacious stay in the heart of Hong Kong. The location is fantastic, close to restaurants, shops, and public transport. The room is more like a serviced apartment, with a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room, and a large bedroom and bathroom. The staff are friendly and helpful. A couple of things to note: the street leading up to the hotel is very steep, which might be challenging for elderly guests. Also, no drinking water is provided in the room, but you can refill bottles at the gym. Overall, I had a great stay and would definitely return.
My husband and I stayed at Shama Central for two months while relocating to Hong Kong. His company placed us here initially for a month, but we ended up needing more time to find a permanent home and extended our stay—something that Gloria, the staff member handling our booking, made incredibly easy. She was helpful and accommodating throughout the process. The serviced apartment is well-kept and clean, even though the building itself looks a bit dated. It’s important to note that this isn’t a traditional hotel setup—there’s no formal lobby or staff at the entrance to help with bags. In fact, we had a hard time locating the building on our first day, even with an Uber drop-off. For anyone else arriving for the first time: it’s located at the intersection of Peel Street and Gage Street, just to the left of Pizza Project—a helpful landmark to keep in mind. The location is prime. You’re right in the heart of Central, surrounded by a great mix of old and new Hong Kong. There are trendy restaurants, cafes, and boutiques alongside traditional wet markets and local eateries. When we first checked in, one of the air conditioning units in our room wasn’t working. Thankfully, the team responded quickly and was able to move us to a different unit without much hassle, which we really appreciated. Everyone we interacted with, including the housekeeping team, was friendly and professional. I really appreciated the routine cleaning service, which helped keep the space feeling fresh and comfortable. Our unit was spacious, featuring a separate living room, dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen. The bedroom had a king-size bed and still offered enough room to comfortably fit several large suitcases. It was a great setup for a longer stay. Don’t expect a scenic view—our unit overlooked older buildings and there was quite a bit of construction in the area. The gym on-site is small but functional, with all the basic equipment you’d need for a quick workout. Overall, Shama Central was a practical and comfortable base for our transition to life in Hong Kong. While it’s not luxurious, it’s well-managed and worked perfectly for what we needed.
