Shanaya Resort Malang is truly a hidden gem worth visiting. Many guests praise the incredibly friendly and helpful service—from check-in to check-out, everything feels warm and professional. The peaceful atmosphere is perfect for those seeking healing or quality time away from distractions. The hobbit-style cabins are a favorite, offering a unique, cozy, and private vibe. The food is no joke either—varied, delicious, and well-portioned. Some guests even said that whenever they return to Malang, Shanaya will always be their first choice.
Coincidentally, when I stayed with my wife and child, our room was right in front of the playground and swimming pool, so it was very easy to access them. In my opinion, the best part of this hotel is the environment. There are so many places where you can just sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Even if you choose the cheapest room type, you can still access those facilities.
We had a horrendous stay at Shanaya Resort, marked by repeated lies, poor maintenance, and appalling service. Our nightmare began when the AC in the master bedroom didn’t work, leaving us sleepless in the heat. We were moved to another villa, but this one had a king and a double bed, while we had clearly booked a king + twin beds for our children. Instead of acknowledging their mistake, they tried to charge us IDR 200K per night for an extra bed. Only one night was offered for free. Then they claimed to have “fixed” the AC in our original villa, so we moved back again – only to discover that the AC still wasn’t working even by 8 PM, despite their second confirmation it was fixed. That’s two blatant lies from their staff. We had to move a third time, and the final villa reeked of sewage from the bathroom, and the water dispenser was broken, dispensing warm water instead of cold. Throughout this ordeal, the staff were utterly unhelpful, indifferent, and at times rude. There was zero ownership of the issues or any meaningful apology. For a resort that markets itself as a “luxury family stay,” this was an insulting, frustrating, and exhausting experience.
